Surge in Demand for Indonesian Herbal Products Across East Asia

Demand for Indonesian herbal products has surged significantly across East Asian markets, especially in China, Japan, and South Korea. In the past five months, exports of herbal items such as red ginger, temulawak, and essential oils have increased by 27%, according to data from the Agricultural Quarantine Agency.

This trend is largely driven by growing health awareness and interest in natural remedies among East Asian consumers. Indonesian herbal products are rich in healing properties and have long been used in traditional medicine, both as dietary supplements and ingredients in pharmaceutical production.

Indonesian exporters are innovating by packaging herbal products in modern forms such as capsules, instant powders, and bottled oils. Appealing packaging and compliance with international standards have increased global confidence in Indonesian product quality.

Government support includes strengthening quality certifications like GAP and GMP, as well as improving trade relations with destination countries. Industry players have also actively participated in international herbal product exhibitions in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

With sustained demand, Indonesia has a golden opportunity to become the regional hub for natural herbal products in Asia. This momentum not only strengthens the economy but also encourages preservation of native herbal plants and supports local farmers in spice-producing regions.
